And, there was plenty of pre-planning to ease the travel anxiety of our dogs, Angel,a Schnauzer and Dougie, a Scottish Terrier. We arrived in Tallahassee in time to see the sun setting behind theFlorida State Capitol Building. We made reservations at the dog-friendlyand historic Hotel Duval, which opened in 1951. At one time, after itfirst opened, Hotel Duval had a secret lounge on its upper floors, acces-sible only by those who held a special golden key. The members of theGold Key Club were the power brokers of the state capitol. At the time,Leon County was dry, and the secret lounge served up smuggled booze to the legislators. Today, the boutique luxury hotel is now part of Marriott Bonvoys Autograph Collection. It was coupletly renovated in2009, and will soon undergo a new round of renovations. After our stay, we suggested to management that they make the hotelmore dog friendly by incorporatinggreen space and a fenced-in area where hotel guests could comfortably and safely walk theirdogs. They are taking our suggestions into consideration.Rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, minifridges and complimentary Wi-Fi. Fine dining, superb wines and craftcocktails are provided via 347 Grille By Coach Shula, home of the Shula Cut steak and pork chops. The Level 8 Lounge isTallahassees first roof-top bar and balcony overlooking the city.70THE NEW BARKER www.TheNewBarker.com'
